All About Wingham

History

In the year 1853 a town plot was laid out where the two branches of the Maitland River met. John Coryn, one of the earliest settlers built a hotel in the area in 1861. In 1862 a post office was included and the tiny settlement was named Wingham. The community thrived as a supply and distribution centre for the surrounding area and with the completion of the railway Wingham's future looked very bright.
