2014 in Review

Webers Installing Conduit in Cruickshank Park Webers Installing Conduit in Cruickshank Park

As 2014 winds down we want to reflect on the past year.  This has been the first full year for the Wingham BIA.  During 2014 we held our first Annual General Meeting which was well attended.  The Executive was able to review projects completed from February through December 2013 and outline plans for 2014.  We sent 2 Executive members to the OBIAA Conference in Hamilton in late April.  This event presents an excellent opportunity to network with other communities, learning from their experiences both good and not so good.  Summer saw 3 big events in Wingham.  Although the BIA doesn’t have specific involvement, we fully support the Musical Muskrat Festival, Wingham Walk for ALS and this year, the 2014 Homecoming.  During the summer months the Curb Appeal committee was busy sprucing up area businesses and Josephine in general in preparation for Homecoming.  We were very pleased with the large number of positive comments received on the look of Wingham.  October saw a new event in Wingham that we hope will become an annual highlight.  The Festival of Lanterns in conjunction with Halloween saw a tremendous response in its inaugural year.  Building on annual activities, the lighting of the Christmas lights in Cruikshank Park took place on Nov. 14.  A large turnout came to the Wingham Fire Hall, across from the park, to sing carols, drink hot chocolate and enjoy the view of the park.  We owe a great thanks to some community minded businesses for donations of equipment, expertise and time to run some extra wiring throughout the park.  Hurontel supplied the conduit and Webers installed it; both free of charge.  THANK YOU. The BIA also made a float which has participated in the Homecoming parade in August and the Wingham Christmas parade in December.  It’s expected that this float will participate in many local parades in the coming years.

We’re looking forward to 2015 with a variety of projects in the works.  Stay tuned for updates throughout the year.
