Wingham BIA Annual General Meeting Recap

The Wingham BIA held their Annual General Meeting on February 25th at the Knights of Columbus lounge. Chairman Lisa Hearnden reported on the BIA’s activities and accomplishments in 2015. Treasurer Jason Schiestel presented the 2015 financial statements and the proposed budget for 2016. North Huron Economic Development Officer Connie Goodall reported on activities and opportunities for North Huron. Yolanda Teeninga council rep to the BIA expressed thanks and support on behalf of council. Doug Kuyvenhoven presented the BIA goals list for 2016. Dave Peers presented the BIA executive’s recommendation to purchase 55 snowflake lights for the lamp posts along main street at a cost of $30,000. The funds would be provided from past years’ BIA surpluses. After some discussion the recommendation was approved by the membership. The following were elected to the BIA executive for 2016: Lisa Hearnden, Doug Kuyvenhoven, Christine McGrath, Dave Peers, Jason Schiestel, Jim Snyder, Dave Tiffin, and Sandy Walker. Yolanda Teeninga & Dave Peer presented the BIA awards as follows: Volunteer of the Year - Tharon Riley, New Business of the Year - Sherry Giffen of Sherry’s Barber Shop, Lifetime Achievement - Bruce Stainton, Civic Improvement - Jeff Drost & Doug Kuyvenhoven landlords of The Family Tree & Petropolis, Business of the Year - Jen Schlauch of The Family Tree.
